Born in Paris in 1976, Sevag Armenian lives and works in Beirut, developing a body of work he first initiated in 1991. With painting as his preferred medium, his compositions construct space through multiple interwoven layers where supersaturated puzzles give birth to labyrinthine and abstract figures. Colors are sedimented in successive layers to sketch a pictorial language where uncertain forms sometimes emerge between geometric shapes. The line often becomes more violent and musical, taking on a rock and roll energy as if each work is a transcription of a concert. From beneath the clashing of black, red, blue, and green, a subtle music emerges that suggests intimate and collective narratives, which are sometimes made more explicit in his collages through scattered signs like a photograph, a magazine article, or newspaper fragments "lost media items" that reference Lebanese or Armenian stories.
